During this evening’s Where’s Waldo Net, Tom Crawford, KA0CDR, mentioned that the World War One Museum and Liberty Memorial in Kansas City is one of the outstanding museums in the country and is the official museum in the United States of the First World War. Afterwards, Sherry Hall, KE0QDN, wanted to know more. Hence, this message:

Since the last weekend in June, 2014, ham radio has had a part in centennial commemoration of WWI conducted at the museum, with four ham supported events each of the four years. There are two left in this year, September 29/30 and November 11. Hams interested in participating should refer to <http://larryslist.info>.

For a more detailed description of the ham operations, please refer to:

<https://www.theworldwar.org/amateurradio> and the QRZ entry for WW1USA, the ham call assigned to the National World War 1 Museum Amateur Radio Club. The president of the club is Herb Fiddick, NZ0F, <hfiddick at gmail.com>.

There is no question that the WW1USA activities have been incredibly well received by the museum leadership, and have been a demonstration of the quality of the local and regional ham radio communities.

This effort was the dream of the late Clay Wilson, N0WWI, (SK) a former docent at the museum. It was his vision and persistence which persuaded the museum to approve his proposal. They are glad they did.

Larry, W0AIB

P. S. We are also blessed with the outstanding Ensor Park and Museum, Olathe, KS <http://www.ensorparkandmuseum.org>
