A couple more hams are needed to support safety communications at the Johnson County Parks and Recreation District Women’s Triathlon and Duathlon on the morning of Saturday, August 18. Communications will be conducted using two-meter handhelds on the run course and mobiles on the bike course on a simplex two-meter frequency.
The duathlon and triathlon is for female competitors only. The event will be held inside Kill Creek Park and on paved roads east of the park near Olathe.
The swim portion of the sprint triathlon is 500 meters long in the park lake. The bike portion is 10.6 miles long on county roads with some killer hills toward the end. The run is 3.1 miles long along park trails on both the duathlon and triathlon courses. The super sprint triathlon course is a 200-meter swim, 4-mile bike inside the park and 2-mile run. The duathlon is a 10.6 mile bike sandwiched between two 3.1 mile runs.

Hams need to arrive at Kill Creek Park by 0700. The biking part is expected to finish about 1030 and the running done by 1130. Hams on the bike portion of the course can be dismissed after the last bike passes, So request a position on the bike course if you need to leave before 1000.
